Los Angeles and Orange County Mediation Lawyers Give You the Best Choices.

Mediation – an alternative to litigation

You’re experiencing the fear and stress of not knowing what’s going to happen. Your life seems to be spiraling out of control and you just need to get your feet back under you. You’re afraid of what a divorce will do to your children and your savings. You know what your friends and family have been through after facing a terrible divorce experience. You’re scared, confused and looking for a way to feel okay. You can relax. There’s a better way. You’ll get through this challenge, and you can choose the right path.

Divorce can be extremely expensive.

There’s an old saying: “Marriage is grand, Divorce is about $50 grand.” In fact, the average cost of a litigated divorce in Los Angeles County is approximately $50,000 for each side. It’s always stressful. Even if people get what they want, they almost never feel they “won.” That’s because in California, no one “wins” a divorce, they simply get one. When decisions about custody and support are made by the court, you may feel as if you’ve lost control, and to a certain extent, you have. The adversarial nature of litigation can leave you and your spouse fighting over details that may not even mean that much to you. It often leads to the destruction of relationships and the loss of dignity.

Mediation is a way to bring peace and reduce the cost and stress of divorce. Mediation allows you to have control over the outcome. It’s less costly than litigation and preserves relationships that are often destroyed in the litigation process. It saves your children from the trauma of litigating parents. It’s private and confidential. With mediation, the clients control the process rather than the lawyers. Our mediators guide you as you create your own resolution, one that’s best for you and your kids.

We guide you as you create your own resolution.

Our role as mediators is to be an experienced and neutral guide who helps you and your spouse reach an agreement. After exploring each person’s concerns and considering the unique circumstances of your particular family law matter, our experience and expertise allows us to explore various resolutions with both of you together, allowing you to be the creators of your own resolution.

How mediation works.

Mediation happens when the clients agree to try to resolve their issues through a mutually selected neutral person trained in mediation. Once you and your spouse have chosen the mediator, you can decide which issues you’ll address during mediation. You can also agree to get help from other specialists during the mediation process, such as a child specialist to help with children’s issues, a mental health professional to help get through the rough patches and facilitate communication, or a financial professional to help with support payments and other financial issues. You and your spouse make agreements with the assistance of the mediator and other professionals who can help the process.

Mediation is completely confidential and even if an agreement is not reached, anything discussed or prepared for the purposes of the mediation remains confidential and cannot be used in court
